At STROOM , we value supporting students in their development. That is why we actively promote internships, open days and other initiatives that enthuse the new generation for a career as a media specialist or consultant. On October 10 it was that time again: the first-year communication students of the Hogeschool Rotterdam came on a company safari at STROOM for an inspiring introduction to the media world.
This year, STROOMers Annemieke Overgaauw and Hiske van Dantzig took the students through an interactive session to introduce them to the dynamic world of media.
Annemieke kicked off by giving the students a glimpse into her daily work, using three real-life client cases: Centrafarm XTluis, Dé VakantieDiscounter and MaxxiumHendricks. Using the internal briefing process as an example, she showed how STROOM works from brief to media plan and the steps involved. Special attention to team Research & Insights where the media behavior of the target group is mapped. Annemieke's enthusiasm and experience gave the students a clear picture of what it is like to work in the media world and how an effective media strategy is created. A quiz then tested the knowledge gained.
During her presentation, Annemieke also explained how STROOM successfully works within the triangle of client, advertising agency and media - and performance agency and how this collaboration helps develop strong and effective media plans.
From corporate safari to working at STROOM
Hiske, herself a communications student at the Hogeschool Rotterdam, came to STROOM via the same safari and now enjoys working as a Content intern in the Marketing team. During the presentation, Hiske talked about how valuable the safari was for her how she herself now experiences the theory in practice. It was a special experience for her to now stand in front of the group herself and share her story with the new batch of students.
Matthijs Kloezeman was also introduced to STROOM during the business safari at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. He has now been working here for seven years: in 2017 he started as a Marketing and Content intern. Thanks to his commitment and perseverance, he worked his way up from Junior to Medior, then to Senior and finally to Director. Today, Matthijs fulfills the role of Client Service Director and leads the mediacommerce consultants at STROOM Rotterdam.
With the company safari, we not only want to share knowledge, but also inspire students to find their own path in the media world. Matthijs' career at STROOM shows how such an experience can be the first step to a successful future in the industry.
Future-oriented and committed
By actively participating in internships and open days (such as the company safari), STROOM is investing in the future of the media world. We want to not only show students what is possible, but also give them the confidence that they can make a valuable contribution to the profession.
