We like to introduce our colleagues to you. In this interview we introduce you to Mariët, Junior Digital Communications Consultant in Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
Who are you?
I am Mariët van der Valk, 23 years old and I live in Rotterdam. I studied Business Administration at Erasmus University and then went on to follow the Master in Consumer Marketing at the University of Amsterdam. After my studies I traveled around Central America for a few months and have now started my first full-time job. I am part of the Digital team as a Jr. Digital Communications Consultant. In my free time, I love going out for dinner or having drinks in the sun with girlfriends. I also enjoy playing keyboard, running and going to concerts and festivals.
How do you fill your position at STROOM?
As a Jr. Digital Communications Consultant at STROOM , I am responsible for online media planning, execution and evaluation of campaigns for our clients. I am driven and excited to learn new things and build strong client relationships.
What did you do for this?
Last summer, I graduated for my master's degree in Consumer Marketing. During my studies, I worked as a working student at Huisman Equipment in the HR department. I also supported the PR & Communications department for a while. Furthermore, I had a side job in the hospitality industry for a long time which I always enjoyed doing.
What are your growth aspirations?
My ambition is to become a specialist in digital communications through development and experience in advising many different clients.
What energizes you in your work?
Challenging and varied work combined with a driven and enthusiastic team give me energy. In addition, I attach great value to fine collaborations.
What do you get energy from in your free time?
In my free time, I like to undertake things with friends and family, such as going out to dinner, playing games or having a nice day out. In addition, I love music and enjoy going to concerts and festivals. I have also started playing keyboard which I enjoy a lot.
What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal is pasta.
What is your favorite vacation or vacation country?
My favorite vacation country is Colombia: the perfect combo between nature and culture.
What is your favorite sport? Or what sport do you practice yourself?
My favorite sport is running. I also like to rocycle and occasionally go to the gym.
Which medium are you most a fan of?
The medium I am most a fan of are Instagram and Pinterest. Especially Pinterest, I use a lot for inspiration.
What is your favorite quote?
The only impossible journey is the one you never begin. This reminds me that to get to something great, you have to start at the beginning and it takes time to reach your goal. Sometimes something feels impossible because you want to get to the result immediately, but if you don't start at the beginning, you will never get there.
What can people wake you up at night for?
Je kunt me ’s nachts wakker maken voor chocolade.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching programs like Long Live Love and Married At First Sight.
What is the best thing about working in the media?
What I like most about working in media is the varying landscape and the endless possibilities of setting up campaigns. This makes every campaign different and the work challenging. Also, it is a dynamic world that is constantly innovating and changing.
What is your favorite movie and why?
I don't watch many movies, but I do watch series. I really like Fool Me Once and Narcos.
